Weekend Retreat: Cultivating Wisdom
Retreat at a Glance:
– Red Saraswati Empowerment
– White Manjushri Empowerment
– Oral transmission of the practice texts
-Teaching on the Wisdom Chapter of the Way of the Bodhisattva
To become fully realized Buddhas, we must accumulate both Merit and Wisdom. This retreat focuses on connecting with the teachings of Wisdom, which arises not just from knowledge but through awareness. By cultivating wisdom and compassion with an altruistic mindset, we can overcome the darkness in our world and help manifest the Golden Age on Earth.
Wisdom and compassion are like two wings of a bird—both are needed to soar. Through deep personal transformation and dedicated practice, we reduce suffering and become better equipped to help others. Despite the challenges in the world, we can start our path today and embody the peace we wish to see
Khentrul Rinpoche’s connection with Manjushri
Khentrul Jamphel Lodrö Rinpoche is name means Manjushri and was bestowed on him at ordination. The name was his preceptor root guru’s name and it is believed the person receiving this name embodies the qualities of that guru.
White Manjushri – Gentle Methods in Wisdom and Sweet Speech
White Manjushri helps us cultivate wisdom, specifically through gentle methods that help us teach others through our speech.
Red Sarasvati – Intuitive Female Wisdom
Khentrul Rinpoche will bestow the Wang (full empowerment) of the Goddess Red Saraswati who is the consort of Manjushri and the female embodiment of wisdom. The empowerment comes from the Jonang tradition, based on Jetsun Taranatha.
Both Buddhists and non-Buddhists worship her equally. In the vedic tradition, Brahma created the world, and for a long time after, they didn’t have any sounds or sentient beings. Many gods came to him and said, “you made the world, but there are no beings and no sounds.” Then Brahma spilled water from his vase, and there became this incredible sound, this sound is known as the goddess Sarasvati. So that is why she is known as Brahma’s daughter. While the story varies across cultures, the Tibetan tradition features multiple forms of Sarasvati, including a powerful, four-armed tantric version. She is especially worshipped by scholars and spiritual practitioners for her transformative, magnetizing power.
Way of the Bodhisattva – Wisdom Chapter Teaching
PREPARATION TEACHING FOR 2026 YEAR LONG ADVANCED COURSE
In 2026 Khentrul Ripoche will be giving teachings on the 20 Sutras of the Definitive Meaning of Dharma, this is the ultimate wisdom teachings. To help prepare disciples for this, he will bestow the White Manjushri and Red Saraswati Empowerments along with preparatory teachings on Shantideva’s Way of the Bodhisattva Wisdom chapter. The teachings on the Sutras of Definitive Meaning were from high level Bodhisattvas and are deeper even than the wisdom teachings of Shantideva. In Buddhist practice, we don’t just care for ourselves as humans to understand our own true nature and attain everlasting peace and happiness, but that all those around us, seen and unseen, experience the same thing. This includes pets and animals. In our modern times some people love their pet’s as much as their family members so it is easy to see why we would also want the best for them in this life and in future lives.
There are practices for blessing animals, freeing them and extending their life. Rooted in compassion and a respect for all forms of life, Buddhist animal blessings reflect the core values of the Bodhisattva, loving kindness, and interconnectedness.
For Buddhists, animals are regarded as sentient beings, and even the most pampered pets still suffer more than most humans because they are unable to develop themselves spiritually. It is, therefore, very important that we help them.
We can do this with animal blessing ceremonies, reciting mantras to animal companions and exposing them to sacred objects such as images of the Buddha. The animal blessings can have a calming effect on them and help put vast amounts of positive imprints in their minds, ensuring their future happiness and well-being.
Animal Blessing at the Rime Institute
On Sunday, January 19th, Khentrul Rinpoche, the resident Buddhist master at our temple has agreed to host a blessing for pet’s and animals. The temple is particularly powerful because we have a structure on the property called a Stupa. It creates positive Karma for the animal and the owner to walk in a circle around a stupa. There are many stories in Tibet of even a fly circling a stupa and that alone created a condition for their enlightenment in the future. The stupa is full of relics and has been infused with all the blessings of the power of Buddha’s mind.
What to expect?
The Buddhist animal blessing contains a variety of rituals, each designed to express reverence and create conditions for the animals better future rebirth and purification of karma. This may include chanting, circumambulating our stupa, sprinkling water infused with holy blessings to create peace and harmony..
Benefit for Your Pet Ultimately Includes Enlightenment but it starts smaller:
–Increases your practice of Compassion: Remembering that not just you but all sentient beings want peace and happiness is a first step for ourselves towards enlightenment
–Blessing for Health and Happiness: Even in this life your pet wants health and happiness. The blessing helps to increase their karmic conditions for this. Nothing is guaranteed but every thing helps.
–A Better Future Rebirth: In Buddhism we believe in reincarnation. We also believe that to have a chance to realize our own sacred truth we need a human rebirth. So this is praying for the animal to have a better human rebirth.
–Free the Animal From Negative Rebirths: No one wants a lower rebirth but all of us have done something in the beginningless cycle of existence that was unwise. The prayers help to prevent your pet from a lower rebirth.

Amitabha is the most well-known Buddha after Buddha Shakyamuni himself. Some Chinese traditions only focus on Amitabha, and many Tibetans also focus on him because, in the Amitabha sutra, it is said he has taken many vows to help sentient beings easily be reborn in his Pureland of Sukhavati, the Land of Bliss.
Amitabha Pureland is one of the well-known easiest pure lands to get to, although perhaps harder to reach than the Bodhisattva realm of Shambhala. Through this empowerment, one can connect with and work to cultivate unwavering faith and devotion to Amitabha. If one is reborn in his pure land, the path to Buddhahood is natural.
Two of Khentrul Rinpoche’s Lamas, including his root Guru Lama Lobsang Trinlé emphasized Amitabha a lot, especially for non-monastic householder practitioners. Even though Lama Lobsang Trinlé was a Kalachakra master, he spent his whole life practicing and extensively teaching Amitabha to everyone. He eventually bestowed not only his hat but also his precious practice text of Amitabha to Khentrul Rinpoche. It had become warn out because he had used it for so many years. Lama Lutrin instructed Khentrul Rinpoche to teach this practice to Amitabha to many people in the future.
Up until now, Khentrul Rinpoche has focused on sharing his passion for Shambhala and the Golden Age, so he has not had a chance to emphasize Amitaha enough. But now he sees that it is the right time to start emphasizing and sharing these teachings to fulfill his responsibility to his precious teacher.
Many of the people with great faith and devotion feel at peace upon death, They often see Amitabha before they die and feel at peace and secure after they have become dedicated to this practice. A Jonang Lama and a Khandro said that Khentrul Rinpoche’s own mother went to Sukhavati so the practice is very powerful. Khentrul Rinpoche received this empowerment and practice many times from Nyingma Lama, Zhigli Khenpo Tenzin Zangpo and Lama Lobsang Trinley.
Rinpoche will give the empowerment and a practice with it.

About KuruKulla
Kurukulla, the powerful Dakini and emanation of Red Tara, is the “cause of wisdom” and the embodiment of enlightened feminine energy. Her unique ability to magnetize wisdom, wealth, health, and success makes her a revered figure across traditions.
This semi-wrathful goddess is known for her transformative power to subdue negative forces while attracting blessings. Kurukulla’s vibrant red energy symbolizes her dynamic force, capable of drawing positive resources and dispelling obstacles.
Invoke her to enhance spiritual growth, protect against misfortune, and manifest abundance. Through her practices—ranging from divination and amulets to controlling negative forces—Kurukulla empowers you to magnetize your desires, overcome challenges, and attract prosperity.
Her practice sadhanas are associated with developing many mundane siddhis such as the power to restore site, the power swift feet, power of Invisibility, the power of rejuvenation, the power to levitate, the power to move freely through the earth and the power to have command over the spirits of the underworld.
May KuruKulla, help us magnetize all the desired conditions for the flourishing of the Golden Age in our world, the flourishing of Kalachakra and the enlightenment of all sentient beings.
