Meditation Basics

Meditation Basics provides students with an introduction to seated practice. Using Khentrul Rinpoche’s book, An Authentic Guide to Meditation, students delve into the Buddhist view of meditation and learn tools and techniques to connect with a deeper level of mind.

Each session explores meditation philosophy and the mind and offers guided practice. There are also opportunities to ask questions and discuss your experiences with the teacher and fellow students.

About the Teacher

Jackie Bao

Our inspirational teacher Jackie was born in 1968 in Shanghai and immigrated to Australia in 1997. At the age of 41, she felt compelled to search for an authentic Buddhist teacher and had the great fortune of meeting Tibetan Buddhist master Khentrul Rinpoche in 2010. Under his guidance she learned how to meditate and subsequently studied teachings on Buddha nature, Madhyamaka and the preliminary practices of Kalachakra Vajra Yoga.

Her advice for those looking to explore Buddhism and meditation is:

  • come with an engaged mind and heart, our words and actions are empty if our hearts are locked away and not on the journey with us
  • it is possible to render obstacles powerless
  • remember that faith and devotion to your teacher are indispensable
  • when doubt arises, be thankful and practice more!
