If what motivates us is spiritual development and we have the capacity and capabilities to engage with Buddhist tantric practice, what is required is a firmly grounded conviction of faith.
This may be characterised within three major Dharma teachings:
- having faith in the sublime efficacy of realising our inherent Buddha nature;
- having clear comprehension of the dominance of our samsaric lives by karma – causes and effects;
- having the openness needed to be able to establish a spiritual relationship with our Lama (Guru Yoga).
Remembering that faith, comprehension and relationship are subjective qualities, that esoteric Buddhist practice is experiential, we should try to take the teachings and practice to heart in an authentic way.
